Viking Seax
Viking Seax
Big Beefy Bruiser
Forged for the Youtube Knifemakers Challenge - Judges submission, this 1.9 lbs Seax has a 13" blade and an overall length of 19.25". Through tang construction. The tang is peened onto the pommel.
Materials
1070 core with a simple "calm waters" mosaic jacket of 1084/15n20. The bolster and pomels are made of wrought iron and copper. The handle is Pau Ferro and it is inlaid with twisted copper wire. CA glue was used to affix the wire into the channels.
Design
Machine finished because I imagined that Vikings would leave their blades a little sweaty. There is some pitting on the flats of the blade from a lengthy etch. The bevels were refinished to remove the blemishes and reetched.
This is a Big Beefy Bruiser that feels absolutely amazing in the hand. The balance is 1.25" past the bolster giving it the feeling of a slicy blade but with the ability to chop.
